This year, PHD Nigeria’s “Big Hug” charity initiative will focus on the education and care for children who are affected by autism.
Teaming up with the Patrick Speech and Language Centre (PSLC), PHD Nigeria’s first “Big Hug” of the year was to organise a “Talent in Autism” Show.
The event was set up to increase knowledge of autism throughout Nigeria and to create awareness of PSLC and that the centre can help children living with autism lead normal lives by being integrated into mainstream schooling.
The Talent event showcased the outstanding talent of the children who attend the centre. The event was an opportunity to focus on the children showcasing their talent through painting, singing, piano playing and numeric understanding. There was a great turnout of support from invited guests and locals who heard about the event through different media channels.
PHD Nigeria approached media channels to promote the event, and set up a media tour with Dr. Dotun Akande, director of PSLC, to discuss autism and the organisation. The tour was broadcasted across major radio stations, airing on different days.
PHD Nigeria has also made a donation which will be put towards the construction of a new school complex for PSLC.
