PHD Open<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 3rd<\/sup> annual PHD Open mixed doubles tennis tournament was played in 37\u00b0 heat last Friday at the Fawkner Park tennis centre.<\/p>\n

A record number of players took part with more than 50 PHDers taking this year\u2019s theme of \u2018take no prisoners\u2019 to heart as they battled it out across both the round robin and knockout stages of the competition.<\/p>\n

There could be only one winner however, and the pair of Georgina Debenham and Simon Lawson finally tasted the sweet wine of ultimate victory after two years of painful disappointment.<\/p>\n

Speaking of the victory, Simon said: \u201cAll the months of training, the early mornings, the sacrifice, it\u2019s all been worth it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Georgie added: \u201cThis was my swansong, Simon can find another partner next year: I\u2019ve had enough\u201d<\/p>\n

Runners up on the day were last year\u2019s champions Jo Barnes and Daniel Stockdale, who are apparently still filthy about some \u201cdodgy line calls\u201d, and who just need to build a bridge and get over it.<\/p>\n

Best dressed pair went to Matt De Marco and Alice Hadley whilst Marisa Galli won the best dressed individual.<\/p>\n
